Some might think the title of this article; Frugal Living and Interior Decorating is an oxymoron; “a combination of contradictory words”. The truth is, when it comes to interior design and decorating, its not about what you have in your home that’s frugal but what you do with it.

Being frugal should not mean you cannot exploit what you have in your home to use it in the best way possible. Providing living comfort and beauty should be the standard in any home. This is where an interior designer can help. but for others the cost is prohibitive or considered too indulgent.

Today there is a more affordable, frugal living option. It’s called Redesign. These are decorators who are introducing a different approach to interior design that supports a frugal living life style.

Redesigners are experts at presenting new decorating ideas using your old stuff.

They enjoy the challenge of being invited into a home, going through each room, and then, introducing different ways to manipulate or update. Incorporating interior design tools like:

Furniture Placement – by changing the way people enter or exit a room can highlight different accents and give the entire space a totally different look and feel.

Furniture Manipulation – Exchanging pieces from room to room or dragging stuff in and out of storage to create new groupings.

De-cluttering – It’s amazing the space making and decorating difference it makes to remove things that are not beautiful or useful from a home.

Paint – watch what can be done with paint, in the hands of an expert.

What Redesigners do is give everything in your home a fresh eyed look. Having never seen these things before, what has become routine and drab to you, can be reinvented in ways you have never considered.

For example, take that old dresser left in the guest bedroom. Add some new drawer pulls and a new paint treatment and it will become an elegant dining room side board.

Have an old door in the garage and you need an office desk? Let’s add some glass, a creative support system, again that frugally affordable paint, and the end result can become a beautiful French country desk. Perfect for your home office.

You’ll be amazed when you see what can be done with an old bookcase, or a collection of seashells. and tired tools and toys. Redesigners are experts in regrouping, reorganizing, re-imagining and re-cycling.

No matter what your frugal living budget may be you don’t need to look at interior decorating as an indulgence. It’s a great way to redecorate your home without spending a lot of money!
